KAMPALA — National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Ssentamu Kyagulanyi, widely known as Bobi Wine, has launched a scathing critique of Uganda’s justice system. His remarks followed an open political endorsement made by the head of the country’s Judicial Service Commission (JSC), Justice Dr. Douglas Singiza.
Justice Singiza, who is legally bound by his office to uphold judicial code of conduct and strict political neutrality, reportedly drew intense public backlash after openly endorsing General Muhoozi Kainerugaba for the presidency during a courtesy call at the Office of the National Chairman in Nakasero.
Reacting strongly to the development, Bobi Wine argued that the incident exposes the deep rot within the country’s governance and legal institutions.
“Uganda’s justice system hits a new low with the head of the Judicial Service Commission Singiza Douglas openly endorsing Museveni’s brutal, criminal son!” Bobi Wine stated on social media.
Highlighting the statutory mandate of the JSC—which is tasked with disciplining judicial officers who step into partisan politics—the opposition leader questioned how citizens could ever expect fair legal recourse under such a compromised framework.
“The JSC is legally mandated to enforce the Judicial Code of Conduct, which strictly forbids judicial officers from engaging in partisan politics—both in and out of the courtroom,” Bobi Wine noted. “How is that body expected to discipline judicial officers who violate the Code when its very head is breaching the code with impunity?”
Bobi Wine further linked the current controversy to Singiza’s tenure as a magistrate, accusing him of historically shielding systemic human rights violations. Concluding his remarks on the state of the nation, the NUP leader declared, “Our nation has hit rock bottom! We have a lot of work to resuscitate it!”
The open endorsement and subsequent criticisms have sparked heated debates across Uganda regarding judicial independence, political succession, and the integrity of state institutions tasked with protecting citizen rights.
