The Ugandan government has completed the transfer of the bodies of two foreign tourists, who were tragically killed in Queen Elizabeth National Park last month, to the United Kingdom.

Fred Enanga, the Police spokesperson, revealed to journalists on Monday that they collaborated with forensic experts from the UK and South Africa to finalize the postmortem report for the deceased foreigners.

“Last Wednesday, the bodies of the foreign tourists were handed over and repatriated to the UK for further arrangements. Our heartfelt sympathies remain with their families during this painful wait. We effectively coordinated and shared our investigative findings with the UK team,” stated Enanga.

He emphasized that all legal processes in Uganda, investigative inquiries, findings, and the chronology of events aligned with GPS phone evidence were shared with the UK teams. The full postmortem report was also provided to the UK authorities.

“Following this tragic incident, significant security enhancements were implemented across all tourist sites in the country. Our CID investigative team is working in conjunction with UPDF to recover exhibits found with the ADF rebel commander apprehended last week, aiding ongoing investigations,” Enanga added.

The Ugandan Cabinet recently approved the proposal to name a road in honor of the two slain tourists from Queen Elizabeth National Park, allegedly attacked by suspected ADF rebels.

Dr. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, confirmed that the Cabinet endorsed the resolution to dedicate a road in memory of British citizen David Jim Barlow and his South African wife, Emmaretia Celia Geyer, along with their Ugandan driver, Eric Alyai.

In a recent UPDF operation, four individuals suspected to be associated with the ADF rebel group involved in the attack were neutralized. Additionally, the UPDF Marine captured a man believed to be the commander of the faction responsible for the assault on the tourists.

Ongoing efforts by the UPDF are focused on tracking, arresting, or incapacitating the remaining ADF members, signaling continued endeavors in the pursuit of justice and security.
