Bow Wow Responds to Lawsuit from Jermaine Dupri’s Father, Suggests He Wouldn’t Bother if Not for JD
After Jermaine Dupri’s father, Michael Mauldin, filed a lawsuit against Bow Wow for alleged trademark infringement related to the Scream Tour in September, the legal proceedings have faced a hurdle—Mauldin has been unable to serve the complaint to Bow Wow. Last week, Mauldin filed a motion for an extension, citing difficulties in locating and serving the rapper within the 90-day period since filing the complaint.
“The extension of time would aid in timely locating and serving defendant, who has been thus far unattainable since the initial filing of the complaint on September 21, 2023, due to the refusal of service by defendant’s counsel and the refusal of service at defendant’s address in Atlanta, Georgia,” the motion states. “The extension of time would also prevent further delay in the case by avoiding a dismissal without prejudice and subsequent refiling of the Complaint.”
In response, Bow Wow took to Instagram, expressing his displeasure with Mauldin and hinting at a potential escalation of the situation. His comment reads, “Aye boyyy if it wasn’t for jd….. [smiley face with horns emoji].” Some social media users find Bow Wow’s use of “boy” disrespectful, given the age difference between him and Mauldin, while others believe his response is justified.
One commenter notes, “Calling that man that could be your grandfather ‘boy’ is so disrespectful,” expressing disapproval. On the other hand, some defend Bow Wow, stating, “Don’t start nothing it won’t be nothing… Keep defending yourself Shad.” The rapper’s mention of Jermaine Dupri (“JD”) in his response adds a layer of complexity to the situation, suggesting a connection between the legal dispute and the longstanding professional relationship between Bow Wow and Dupri.
