Megan Thee Stallion and Reneé Rapp have once again electrified their fans, this time with an unexpected television performance of their chart-topping single “Not My Fault.”

Rapp took the spotlight as the musical guest on the January 20 episode of Saturday Night Live, hosted by Jacob Elordi. The second and final musical segment, introduced by Rachel McAdams, featured the new Regina George (Rapp) delivering a spirited rendition of “Not My Fault.” To everyone’s delight, she brought out “the Black Regina George” (Megan Thee Stallion) to deliver an impactful verse.

The song’s title cleverly references a quote from the Mean Girls film, where protagonist Cady, originally played by Lindsay Lohan, declares, “It’s not my fault you’re, like, in love with me or something.”

Megan’s verse in the performance exudes confidence: “It’s funny how the mean girl open all the doors/ But I been told y’all, I’m the black Regina George/ Bikini top, booty shorts, Megan-core/ You was hatin’ back then, now you finna hate more/ I got influence, they do anything I endorse/ I run shit, to be a bad bitch is a sport.”

While the Mean Girls reboot hit theaters on January 12, it hasn’t been without its share of controversies. Notably, Megan Thee Stallion replaced Lindsay Lohan as the face of Planet Fitness in the fitness chain’s new campaign. This move drew criticism from Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, who took to Twitter to body-shame Megan by comparing her campaign photos to those of his daughter’s 2022 Super Bowl commercial.

In response, fans swiftly defended Megan, pointing out the irrelevance of such comparisons and redirecting focus to Michael Lohan’s own controversies. One supporter wrote, “Worry about yourself. The first things that pop up on Google when searching your name are your mugshots, offenses & arrests.”

Despite the external drama, Megan Thee Stallion not only contributed to the Mean Girls reboot’s soundtrack but also played a prominent role in the film, delivering the memorable line, “Y2K fire crotch is back!” The line reportedly caught Lindsay Lohan off-guard, leaving her feeling “hurt and disappointed” by the unexpected twist in the reboot.
