French Montana’s recent visit to Colombia took an unexpected turn, as the “Unforgettable” artist found himself encountering law enforcement officials who thoroughly searched his private jet before departure.

On Tuesday (October 31), as the 38-year-old rapper was about to leave Cali, situated southwest of Bogotá, narcotics officers reportedly conducted a detailed search of his private jet. While the specific reason for the search remains unclear, French Montana hinted at suspicions of drug trafficking through his social media posts.

In an Instagram video from the tarmac, French expressed, “Colombia, I love ya’ll, but ya’ll ain’t have to do me like this. I ain’t have to have them dogs in there like that. Know we coke boys but you ain’t coke boys for that. Streets is so messed up, they thought I was bringing a big load.”

In the caption, he wrote, “TRAPPED IN COLOMBIA [Colombian flag emoji]! THEY THOUGHT I WAS BRINGING BACK THE BIG LOAD!! #cokeboys”

Despite the thorough search, French Montana appeared unperturbed, likely indicating he had no illicit substances on board. However, he hinted at the potential consequences, recognizing that not everyone subjected to such investigations emerges unscathed.

The episode evokes reminders of previous incidents involving hip-hop artists and drug-related legal issues. Earlier this year, Fetty Wap received a six-year prison sentence for his involvement in a drug ring operating in Long Island. The rapper, whose real name is Willie Junior Maxwell II, faced charges related to drug trafficking, with allegations of using his music to glorify the drug trade.

During the sentencing in late May, prosecutors highlighted how Fetty Wap had glamorized drug dealings, emphasizing the importance of sending a message that such activities lead to severe consequences. His arrest at New York’s Citi Field in October 2021 exposed an extensive drug operation, resulting in the recovery of significant amounts of drugs, firearms, and cash by federal investigators.

The incidents underscore the legal repercussions faced by artists involved in drug-related activities, and the stringent stance taken by authorities to curb the glamorization and trade of illicit substances within the music industry.
