Nelly and Ashanti seem to have rekindled their relationship, but a recent encounter at a nightclub reminded the St. Louis rapper of the past with an unexpected song choice.

The couple was spotted at a nightclub, where Ashanti took on the role of an emcee on the mic. The DJ, seizing the moment, played “The Way That I Love You,” a song released in 2008 from Ashanti’s fourth album, “The Declaration.” The track is known for its breakup-themed lyrics that recount her separation from Nelly in the 2000s.

As Ashanti sang along to the emotional lyrics, the DJ encouraged her, saying, “I’m gonna do it one time, just one time.” Although Ashanti laughed and sang the song, Nelly, sporting a blue Givenchy sweater and a substantial chain, jokingly expressed his disapproval, playfully giving a thumbs down to the DJ.

Nelly and Ashanti had an on-and-off relationship for nearly a decade, spanning from 2003 to 2013. Speculation about a potential reconciliation intensified earlier this year when they shared a steamy performance of their collaborative track “Body On Me.”

Nelly confirmed their reunion during an appearance on the Boss Moves With Rasheeda show in September, stating, “Yeah, we cool again,” revealing that their renewed relationship surprised them both, emphasizing the deeper understanding gained from time apart.

Recently, Nelly celebrated Ashanti’s 43rd birthday with an extravagant gesture, gifting her a matching lavish watch and a chain that left her visibly moved and speechless. In a heartwarming video capturing the moment, Ashanti was seen receiving the surprise among friends, expressing sheer disbelief and joy as she embraced Nelly and tried on the stunning jewelry.
