Ginuwine has addressed Britney Spears’ recent revelation about Justin Timberlake allegedly putting on a “Black accent” during an encounter with the R&B singer. The “Pony” artist, currently featured on The Masked Singer, shared his perspective on the now-viral story during an interview with PEOPLE.

Speaking about the alleged incident, Ginuwine stated, “Yeah, yeah, I definitely heard about it. People were calling about that. But I can tell you I don’t remember that happening. I truly don’t remember that happening.” He added, “If Justin would’ve did something like that, I probably would’ve looked at him like, ‘Why are you acting like that?’ If he did that, that would be something that I would remember. That would’ve definitely stuck out. So nah, I don’t remember that happening.”

In Britney Spears’ memoir, “The Woman In Me,” she recalls a moment where she and Justin Timberlake encountered Ginuwine in New York. The excerpt describes Timberlake’s attempt to mimic a “blaccent” when addressing Ginuwine, a detail that recently went viral on social media, particularly due to its narration by Oscar-winning actress Michelle Williams.

Notably, Timberlake has not publicly addressed this specific incident or any of the other claims made by Spears in her book, including details about an abortion during their relationship.

Last month, Xscape singer Kandi Burruss defended Timberlake, stating that the era at the time involved boy bands incorporating urban elements into their music and image. She urged people to consider the context of that period and reminded them that Timberlake was a “really, really good guy” during that time.
