Pope Francis proclaimed wine as a ‘gift from God’ and a ‘true source of joy’ during a private audience with Italian winemakers in the Vatican. He humorously acknowledged the potential perception, saying, ‘This seems like a drunk pope.’ However, he swiftly emphasized the importance of enjoying wine in moderation. Addressing the winemakers, he highlighted the moral and ethical responsibilities tied to their craft, urging fair treatment of workers, environmental stewardship, and the promotion of healthy drinking habits.
