In preparation for the upcoming 2024 summer transfer window, Barcelona is reportedly setting its sights on the 31-year-old former Real Madrid playmaker, Isco, who is currently plying his trade with Real Betis. According to Spanish outlet Fichajes, the reigning La Liga champions are actively exploring midfield options, and Isco has emerged as a prominent target.

Isco’s 2022/23 season took an unexpected turn after departing Real Madrid as a free agent. Despite not consistently occupying a starting role with Los Blancos, the Spanish midfielder experienced significant success at the Santiago Bernabeu, winning La Liga and the UEFA Champions League multiple times. However, his tenure with Real Madrid concluded when his contract expired last year.

Following a brief stint with Sevilla, where he encountered challenges behind the scenes leading to the termination of his contract in December 2022, Isco found himself without a club until Real Betis secured his services in the recent summer transfer window.

Since joining Real Betis, Isco has quickly become a key figure at the Benito Villamarin Stadium, contributing three goals and three assists in 17 appearances. His impressive performances have attracted the attention of Barcelona, prompting interest in acquiring his services.

While Barcelona reinforced its midfield during the previous summer with signings like Ilkay Gundogan and Oriol Romeu, both players are on the older side of 30. In their pursuit of rejuvenating the midfield, Barcelona has identified Isco as a potential solution. Despite the counterintuitive nature of signing a player in his 30s, Isco’s one-year contract with Real Betis makes him a cost-effective and experienced short-term option for Barcelona.
