Freeway, the former Roc-A-Fella rapper, is celebrating a significant milestone as he marks the fifth anniversary of his life-saving kidney transplant, reflecting on his journey of battling kidney failure and the subsequent transplant that saved his life.

Diagnosed with kidney failure in 2015, Freeway underwent an organ transplant three years later, receiving a new kidney that gave him a new lease on life. Now, five years after the transplant, the veteran rapper is filled with gratitude and appreciation for the gift of life he received.

Taking to Instagram, Freeway shared heartfelt sentiments alongside images of himself during his hospital treatment. He expressed his gratitude to God and celebrated his continued strength and resilience. Additionally, he highlighted how his personal battle with kidney failure and dialysis inspired him to establish Freedom Thinkers Academy, a thriving organization dedicated to empowering and educating students.

In his Instagram post, Freeway wrote, “Grateful to God as I celebrate my fifth kidney anniversary! On February 5, 2019, I received the incredible gift of life – a new kidney. Five years on, I’m still going strong. My battle with kidney failure and dialysis inspired me to launch Freedom Thinkers Academy.”

He continued, “Today, the company is thriving, empowering and graduating students. Turning adversity into opportunity has been my greatest achievement. If you’re facing renal failure and dialysis, remember, there is hope. Keep your faith in God and stay focused.”

In an effort to raise awareness about kidney failure, Freeway has committed to sharing his experience through weekly Instagram live streams every Monday. By openly discussing his journey, he hopes to shed light on the condition and provide support and encouragement to others facing similar challenges.

Reflecting on his initial reluctance to disclose his health struggles, Freeway recalled the advice he received from his team, urging him to keep his condition private to maintain a facade of invincibility as a celebrity. However, he ultimately chose transparency, recognizing the importance of spreading awareness, particularly within the African American community where kidney failure disproportionately affects individuals.

Freeway emphasized the significance of breaking the stigma surrounding health issues among Black men and highlighted the importance of knowledge dissemination over portraying invincibility. He underscored the need for open dialogue and support within communities impacted by kidney failure, especially among Black and South Asian populations where the condition is more prevalent.

Through his advocacy and openness, Freeway continues to inspire and uplift others, offering hope and encouragement to those navigating their own health challenges.
