Jay-Z and Dame Dash Stand United Amid Legal Battle Over Roc-A-Fella Shares
Amidst legal proceedings involving Dame Dash’s Roc-A-Fella shares, Jay-Z and Kareem “Biggs” Burke have stepped in to defend their former colleague’s stake in the record company. Legal documents obtained by AllHipHop reveal that Dash may have to relinquish his shares to settle a debt owed to film producer Josh Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures.
The legal dispute traces back to 2016 when Dash was terminated as director of Webber’s crime thriller, “Dear Frank.” Allegations of Dash’s misconduct on set led to a fallout, with Dash subsequently attempting to release his version of the film independently. However, Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures filed lawsuits for copyright infringement and defamation, resulting in a judgment against Dash in 2022.
Despite the judgment, Dash has not complied with the court’s order, prompting Webber and Muddy Waters Pictures to seek Dash’s Roc-A-Fella shares to satisfy the debt. However, Jay-Z and Burke have contested this move, citing Roc-A-Fella’s bylaws requiring full board approval for significant share transfers.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Lehrburger acknowledged the dispute but ruled that Dash’s shares could be sold to settle the judgment. Although Jay-Z and Burke have the opportunity to purchase the shares, Webber’s recent attempt to collect the debt was unsuccessful.
The legal battle underscores the enduring connection between Jay-Z and Dash, despite their tumultuous history with Roc-A-Fella. For further developments on this story and the latest news involving Dame Dash and Jay-Z, stay tuned.
