Killer Mike’s Son Successfully Completes Kidney Transplant Surgery

Mikael “Pony Boy” Render, son of rapper Killer Mike, has emerged victorious from a long-awaited kidney transplant surgery. After three years of anticipation, a suitable match was finally found for the 21-year-old, who underwent the surgery on Monday (February 5), following his father’s eventful evening at the Grammy Awards.

Speaking to TMZ, the proud father and Run The Jewels artist shared that his son had a successful procedure, stating that Mikael “did really well” and that the kidney “looks like it is already working.”

Killer Mike has been candid about his son’s health struggles in the past. In a 2023 interview with Graham Bensinger, he recounted the challenges Mikael faced, including swelling feet signaling kidney issues and the emotional toll of witnessing his son undergo dialysis for the first time.

Reflecting on the ordeal, Killer Mike expressed his earnest hopes for his son’s future, stating, “I just pray daily that my child get an opportunity to live a full adult life.”

The positive medical development comes amidst a tumultuous period for Killer Mike. Despite triumphing with three Grammy wins for Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance, the Atlanta rap icon found himself entangled in legal trouble. Following the awards ceremony on Sunday (February 4), he was arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge after an alleged altercation with a security guard.

Clarifying the incident, Killer Mike asserted, “We experienced an over-zealous security guard, but my team and I have the utmost confidence that I will ultimately be cleared of all wrongdoing.”

According to a law enforcement source cited by Rolling Stone, the altercation occurred when a female security guard requested Mike’s tickets, to which he purportedly refused. The guard alleges that he then pushed her to the ground, resulting in injuries to her hand and fingers.

While footage of the incident circulated online, it did not capture the alleged push. However, it did show Killer Mike engaged in a confrontation with security personnel.

As the legal proceedings unfold, Killer Mike’s focus remains on his son’s recovery, with supporters rallying behind the rapper with chants of “free Mike!” captured in a separate video of his arrest.
