Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Takes Decisive Action Amidst Accusations
In a startling turn of events, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine and the President of the National Unity Platform (NUP), has suspended Hon. Mathias Mpuuga from his role as Deputy President (Central Region). This decision comes in the wake of allegations of corruption and abuse of office against Hon. Mpuuga, for which he has failed to provide satisfactory explanations.

The controversy surrounding Hon. Mpuuga stems from revelations regarding a substantial sum of money allocated to him during his tenure. According to documented evidence, on May 6, 2022, a meeting of the Parliamentary Commission took place, attended by key figures including Ms. Anitah Among and Hon. Mpuuga. In this meeting, a collective amount of 1.7 billion shillings was awarded, with Hon. Mpuuga receiving a staggering 500 million shillings. This allocation raised eyebrows, especially considering the circumstances surrounding Hon. Mpuuga’s involvement and the lack of transparency in the process.

Upon discovery of these revelations, President Kyagulanyi took immediate action, convening a meeting of senior party leaders to address the matter. In the presence of key stakeholders, including Deputy Presidents, the Secretary General, the Leader of the Opposition, and others, Hon. Mpuuga admitted to the authenticity of the leaked minutes and expressed remorse for his actions. He acknowledged the impropriety of his involvement and issued a public apology.

In light of the seriousness of the allegations, Hon. Mpuuga was strongly advised to step down from his position on the Commission in the interest of public trust and accountability. Despite initially agreeing to this course of action, Hon. Mpuuga later released a statement diverging from his earlier position and apology, prompting further concern and scrutiny.

To provide clarity on the matter, President Kyagulanyi has outlined ten reasons why the allocation of funds to Hon. Mpuuga was deemed illegal, immoral, and contrary to the values of the NUP. These reasons include the unprecedented nature of the ‘Service Award,’ the lack of accountability in the allocation process, and the potential implications for future leaders in similar positions.

The suspension of Hon. Mathias Mpuuga underscores NUP’s unwavering commitment to transparency, integrity, and accountability. As the party continues its mission to advocate for change and empower communities, President Kyagulanyi reaffirms his dedication to upholding the principles of justice and fairness for all Ugandans.
