The relationship between artists and government support has sparked debates recently, focusing on the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) led by Eddy Kenzo. The government is providing housing and financial assistance, like the Shs 12BN awaiting distribution to the artists’ SACCO.
Eddy Kenzo and fellow artists from UNMF are currently staying at Serene Suites – Mutundwe, with the government covering their expenses. Hon. Fortunate Nantongo, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kyotera District, questions the appropriateness of this support, raising concerns about whether artists should receive special treatment.
She emphasizes that musicians are not refugees, and the government is not obligated to assist them. The duration of their stay at Serene Suites and their activities there remain undisclosed, leading to a lack of support for this initiative.
