Media Fraternity Demands Answers Following Alleged Abduction of Baba TV Reporter Jjengo Eria
UJA AND BABA TV UGANDA CALL FOR URGENT INVESTIGATION INTO THE DISAPPEARANCE OF JOURNALIST JJENGO ERIA
Kampala, Uganda | 14 September 2026
Baba TV Uganda and the Uganda Journalists Association (UJA) are deeply concerned about the disappearance of journalist Jjengo Eria, a reporter attached to the Newsroom Department of Baba TV Uganda, and are calling for an urgent investigation to establish his whereabouts and ensure his safe return.

Jjengo was last seen at approximately midday on Thursday, 10 September 2026, at Baba TV Uganda’s head office in Ntinda, Kampala, according to the station’s CCTV footage. His whereabouts have remained unknown since then.
His disappearance has caused grave concern among his family, colleagues, friends, and members of the wider media fraternity.

Baba TV Uganda has received information from individuals in the Ntinda area who claim to have witnessed an incident involving a Toyota Noah and a Toyota Premio, reportedly occupied by two to three men who were not in uniform.

According to these accounts, a person was allegedly taken away from the area. The description of the individual, including his physical appearance and height, has raised concerns that the person could have been Jjengo Eria.
On Friday, 11 September 2026, we formally reported the disappearance of our colleague, journalist Jjengo Eria, at Kira Road Police Station and requested the authorities to initiate investigations into his whereabouts.

We stress that these accounts remain unverified and have not been independently established. We are therefore treating them as leads and calling upon the relevant authorities to investigate them urgently.
*Call for Investigation*
Baba TV Uganda and UJA call upon all security agencies and other relevant authorities to urgently establish what happened to Jjengo and determine his current whereabouts.
We particularly call for the relevant authorities to:
Review and secure CCTV footage from Baba TV Uganda and surrounding areas.
Investigate the reported movement and possible involvement of the two vehicles.
Establish whether Jjengo was detained, taken away, or encountered any other circumstances after leaving the station.
Provide his family and employer with timely information regarding his status and whereabouts.
If Jjengo is in the custody of any security agency or other lawful authority, we appeal for immediate confirmation of his whereabouts, his condition, and the legal basis for his detention, where applicable, in accordance with Ugandan law.

We appeal to anyone who may have seen Jjengo, interacted with him, travelled with him, or has credible information regarding his whereabouts since 10 September 2026 to come forward and share that information with the relevant authorities or Baba TV Uganda.
We further appeal to the media fraternity and members of the public to share this appeal widely and responsibly to assist in locating Jjengo and facilitating his safe return to his family and colleagues.
