Real Madrid’s Pursuit of Mbappé Takes a Twist: Player Must Take Initiative for Transfer Talks
In a surprising turn, Mbappé, a coveted target for Real Madrid, initially seemed bound for the La Liga club in the summer of 2024, only to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain. Amidst a strained relationship with PSG’s hierarchy, stemming from Mbappé’s refusal to trigger a one-year extension in his contract, the player now has the opportunity to depart Les Parisiens on a free in the summer of 2024—an outcome PSG is eager to avoid.
Despite an air of inevitability surrounding Mbappé’s transfer to Real Madrid, Spanish media reported in November that the club had supposedly abandoned their pursuit. According to RMC Sport, this leaked story, shared with Cadena SER, serves as a strategic move to safeguard Real Madrid’s image. Allegedly, Los Blancos are merely pretending to be disinterested in securing the PSG forward.
A source from Real Madrid has disclosed to RMC Sport that the onus is now on Mbappé to take the initial steps. “If Mbappé wants to come, he has to do the work,” stated the source. Real Madrid is keen to avoid becoming a subject of mockery should Mbappé decide to extend his contract with PSG, reminiscent of his actions in 2022.
