Anita Among, Speaker of the Ugandan Parliament, has strongly condemned recent sanctions imposed on Ugandan officials and reaffirmed her commitment to opposing LGBTQ rights in the country. The sanctions, which were imposed by international actors in response to human rights concerns, have drawn criticism from Ugandan officials who view them as foreign interference.

In a recent statement, Among emphasized her stance against external pressure and reiterated her belief that Uganda must uphold its cultural values. She also vowed to continue fighting against what she called the “homosexual agenda,” asserting that her position aligns with the will of the Ugandan people.

Among’s remarks come at a time when Uganda is under increasing international scrutiny for its stance on LGBTQ rights, particularly after the passage of strict anti-homosexuality legislation. Critics argue that such laws violate basic human rights and target marginalized communities, while supporters insist that they protect societal norms and family values.

The Speaker’s comments reflect the broader political sentiment within Uganda’s government, which has consistently rejected international calls for greater LGBTQ rights and maintained a firm stance against external influence on domestic policy. Despite global condemnation, Uganda’s leadership continues to prioritize what it perceives as its cultural and moral standards in policymaking.
