In a recent discussion on The Danza Project, Elliot Wilson shared his personal “Mount Rushmore” of hip-hop media for the modern era, excluding himself from the list. Wilson’s picks included Sway, Angie Martinez, Charlamagne Tha God, and Joe Budden. However, his choices stirred controversy and diverse opinions among hip-hop enthusiasts.
Wilson’s statement has prompted a range of reactions, with some expressing agreement and others presenting alternative candidates. One commentator emphasized the longstanding contributions of Angie Martinez and Sway, while questioning the inclusion of Joe Budden over Big Boy, known for his extensive experience and insightful interviews. Additionally, mentions of N.O.R.E and DJ EFN were raised by many as deserving figures in hip-hop media.
The debate extends beyond Wilson’s picks, as the hip-hop community weighs in on their own choices for a media Mount Rushmore. Fans and commentators are sharing their perspectives, highlighting names like N.O.R.E, DJ EFN, and Big Boy as worthy contenders.
Meanwhile, in a separate conversation about hip-hop Mount Rushmores, Gucci Mane asserted his claim to being part of any such monument. This follows a viral meme that identified Future, 50 Cent, Lil Wayne, and Jeezy as the “Mount Rushmore of Mixtapes.” Gucci, feeling excluded, expressed his belief that he deserves a spot on any Mount Rushmore, citing his unique criteria for judgment.
The original meme, posted a month ago, has spurred discussions within the music community, with many replies contesting Gucci’s omission. Wiz Khalifa, Jadakiss, and Lil B are among the frequently suggested names for the “Mixtape Mount Rushmore.”
