In Uganda, out of the 12 months that make a year, January is the toughest of all and recently jokingly most Ugandans said that January is a three in one month, January original, January Pro and January Pro max.

Winning a million shillings from your talent, one has to smile especially receiving it at the tail end of the month.

The Express FC duo of head coach Alex Isabirye and Isaac Wagoina have been voted the best in the month of December at the Uganda Premier League monthly Awards and each walked away with a million shilling prize cash.

The pair received their plaques and cash at Kati Kati Restaurant in Kampala on Wednesday evening.

Isabirye managed four wins out of the five games played beating the competition of Maroons head coach Mohamed Ssenfuma and Kitara’s Brian Ssenyondo of Kitara.

“I thank God who has guided me to win this accolade, I have to say that I am lucky because this is not by my mighty, I would like to thank a team of hardworking players and the staff I work with for they have been there in this journey.” Said Alex Isabirye

“After winning the coach of the year last season, I took a break and I just came back to coaching last month at Express FC and it’s just the beginning as we return for the second round of the league I promise to help my club to a better finish, of course my players are younger, I can’t put them on pressure of winning the league but my philosophy is to look at the game at hand, we shall play looking at winning three points nothing else.” He added.

Wagoina thanked his coach Alex Isabirye and the fans who have been with a massive support in the first round of the league.

“I would like to thank the mighty lord who has guided me to win this award, the fans have been massive with the support in the first round but mostly I thank my coach who has instilled a fighting spirit in me. This has helped me to score the goals and more are coming.” Said Isaac Wagoina.

This became the first time for Wagoina to win a monthly accolade from Pilsner.
