JAY-Z’s iconic album, “The Black Album,” has reached its 20th anniversary, and to celebrate the milestone, exclusive throwback merchandise is now available for fans. Originally positioned as JAY-Z’s farewell album, “The Black Album” remains a cornerstone in his discography, with many considering it his magnum opus. In collaboration with Roc-A-Fella Records, Mitchell & Ness has reintroduced the New York Knicks-inspired Shawn Carter jerseys, which gained popularity during the album’s era.

The clothing company shared the news on social media, stating, “Originally released in 2003 to celebrate JAY-Z’s career and forthcoming semi-retirement, the Roc-A-Fella Records x Mitchell & Ness Authentic Jersey is now available in its original and re-imagined variation.”

“The Black Album” holds a significant place in the history of hip-hop, and its impact continues to resonate. Even former U.S. President Barack Obama has acknowledged the influence of a song from the album on his first presidential campaign. In a 2021 interview with Complex, Obama mentioned “My 1st Song” by JAY-Z as a source of motivation during his 2008 campaign.

“I’ve mentioned a couple of songs that even when I was running for president came up a lot on my iPod,” Obama shared. “One of them was ‘My 1st Song’ by Jay-Z, which is a song that I love because it talks about the struggle of just trying to make it.”

Reflecting on a specific line from the song, Obama highlighted its impact on his mindset during the challenging campaign. “There’s a line in there: ‘Treat my first as my last and my last as my first and my thirst is the same as when I came.’ And I actually kept on listening to that song during the presidency because it was a reminder that even when you do make it, having a little bit of that sense of still being hungry, still having to work hard, still having to prove something, that’s what keeps propelling you forward.”
