The battle for the top spots on the Billboard 200 albums chart dated March 2, 2024, was nothing short of fierce, with Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign emerging victorious with their collaborative effort, “Vultures 1.” Despite earlier predictions, “Vultures 1” clinched the number one position, securing its second consecutive week at the summit with approximately 75,000 equivalent album units sold in the United States, as reported by Billboard and independent data provider Luminate. On the heels of this triumph, Yeat’s “2093” makes an impressive debut at the No. 2 spot, amassing around 70,000 album equivalent units—a remarkable milestone for the California-born artist.

The success of “2093” can be attributed to its multifaceted release strategy, which contributed to its chart performance. Initially, the album’s core edition, comprising 22 tracks, received widespread acclaim upon its release on Friday, February 16. Yeat further bolstered the album’s appeal by dropping two additional tracks, “As We Speak” featuring Drake and “Never Quit,” the following day. Finally, on February 21, he unveiled a deluxe version of the LP featuring four bonus tracks, exclusively available on his official website.

Meanwhile, the journey of “Vultures” has been marked by numerous twists and turns, including temporary removals from streaming platforms and disputes over its content. Notably, the album briefly vanished from Apple Music on Saturday, February 24, before resurfacing. Presently, there exist two versions of the project on the platform—one with a capitalized title and another with an uncapitalized title—reflecting the turbulence surrounding its rollout.

Despite the controversies and challenges, both “Vultures 1” and “2093” have achieved significant commercial success, underscoring their enduring appeal and impact. Yeat’s latest release marks his most successful commercial outing to date, while Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign continue to solidify their positions as independent artists with remarkable chart performances.
