Thousands of mourners gathered at Soroti Independence Ground on Tuesday to pay their respects to Cecilia Barbara Atim Ogwal, the late Dokolo District Woman Member of Parliament. Despite the anticipation, disappointment ensued as the body arrived late, spending close to an hour on the ground where FDC supporters, led by party President Patrick Oboi Amuriat, had assembled.

By 9:30 PM, the body reached Abalang trading center in Kaberamaido, bordering Dokolo district, where Lango district’s political and technical leaders, religious figures, and businessmen had gathered. Mourners, including young children, waited anxiously at Dokolo Town and other trading centers. A mix of wails and ululations filled the air as Cecilia’s body approached.

The convoy reached her home in Alyecowe village, Adok sub-county, at 11:00 PM. Religious leaders from Lango Diocese, led by Bishop Emeritus John Charles Odur Kami, consoled the mourners and urged them to emulate Cecilia’s exemplary life. Dokolo District LCV Chairperson James Otto Apili shared his deep connection with the late MP, expressing the challenge of coping with the void left by her demise.

Cecilia Atim’s body will spend the night at her paternal home in Adok sub-county before proceeding to Dokolo Technical School for a joint council meeting on Wednesday. The meeting, held in her honor, involves local government councils from Lango. The final burial is scheduled for Saturday.
