Teyana Taylor, who previously announced her departure from the music industry at the close of 2020, has sparked curiosity about a possible comeback. The multi-talented artist shared a snippet of a new song on her Instagram Story on Wednesday (January 3), suggesting that her hiatus from music might be coming to an end, possibly influenced by her recent separation from husband Iman Shumpert.
In the preview of the new track, Taylor sings, “You want it/You can’t have it again/Don’t waste your time/You need it/I can’t please it,” hinting at emotions related to her personal experiences.
Back in December 2020, the K.T.S.E. singer expressed frustration with her record label, Def Jam, stating on Instagram Live that she felt unsupported and was tired of the politics in the music industry. At that time, she declared her intention to retire, which garnered support from peers like The Game and Janet Jackson. Despite these sentiments, Taylor redirected her focus towards other ventures during her hiatus, becoming a creative director for artists like Latto and Summer Walker and earning praise for her roles in various movies.
Notably, former President Barack Obama included Taylor’s drama, “A Thousand And One,” in his list of favorite films of 2023. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Taylor shared her excitement on Instagram, expressing how honored she felt that Obama watched her film.
In “A Thousand And One,” directed by A.V. Rockwell, Taylor portrays the lead character, Inez, a woman who takes her son from the foster care system and strives to build a new life for both of them in New York City.
Last year, Teyana Taylor filed for divorce from Iman Shumpert, revealing allegations of his jealous behavior and attempts to restrict her from working. While Taylor initially filed for divorce in 2020 and later withdrew the petition after reconciling with Shumpert, the reasons behind her initial decision to step away from music remain unclear. However, fan reactions make it evident that they are eagerly anticipating Taylor’s potential return to the music scene.
