Benzino’s recent appearance on Drink Champs has stirred controversy after the Hip Hop veteran made remarks perpetuating antisemitic tropes, drawing criticism for their historical roots in discrimination.

In the nearly three-hour interview published on Saturday (February 17), Benzino expressed concern for unity within the Black community but veered into dangerous territory by referencing a longstanding conspiracy often used to fuel antisemitism.

“Let’s build each other,” he urged. “Let me tell you about the Jews that Kanye [West] talked about. The Jews were the slaves and they came together and they bought within each other, and now look at them. Media, banking, entertainment — they run shit. We can run shit, but we killing each other. All you young n-ggas, stop killing each other.”

Benzino’s remarks perpetuate the myth of Jewish control over various industries, a narrative that has been debunked and condemned as antisemitic by organizations such as the Louis B. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law.

The idea that “Jews or Zionists form a powerful, secret, global cabal that manipulates governmental institutions, banks, the media, and other institutions for malevolent purposes” is deeply rooted in bigotry and prejudice.

Watchers of the interview pointed out the problematic nature of Benzino’s comments, highlighting their potential to fuel antisemitic sentiments and reinforce harmful stereotypes.

This isn’t the first time such sentiments have been expressed on the Drink Champs platform. Kanye West, during his own interview on the show in 2022, made similar remarks about Jewish influence in society, drawing widespread condemnation.

It is essential for public figures to be mindful of the impact of their words and avoid perpetuating harmful stereotypes that have historically led to discrimination and persecution.
