The trial of National Unity Platform (NUP) members facing charges of conducting unlawful military drills was adjourned to October 16. The decision came during the case’s 20th session on Friday after the defense raised objections over incomplete evidence disclosure by the prosecution.
The case involves Deputy Spokesperson Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro and several other party members who were arrested in late 2025 following allegations of holding unauthorized, paramilitary-style exercises at the party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule.

During the proceedings, state prosecutors presented compact discs containing video evidence intended to substantiate the charges. However, defense attorneys strongly objected, stating that the prosecution had failed to fully disclose the evidence to the defense prior to the hearing. The presiding magistrate ordered an adjournment to allow time for the prosecution to share the required materials and to clear space on the judicial docket amid ongoing election petition priorities.
Supporters and legal representatives for the accused continue to condemn the charges as politically motivated. They point out that repeated delays and bail denials have kept 21 accused individuals behind bars for nearly a year since their arrest.
The court will reconvene on October 16 to address the evidence disclosures and determine the next steps in the trial.
