Just hours after winning three Grammy Awards, Killer Mike was reportedly arrested in connection with an alleged altercation at the awards ceremony. TMZ obtained footage of the incident and arrest, capturing the rapper being escorted out of the Grammys in handcuffs on Sunday (February 4). He was later released from custody.

According to TMZ, Killer Mike faced a battery charge after a citizen’s arrest was made, stemming from an alleged physical altercation with a security guard. The rapper was said to have knocked down the security guard for not moving out of his way.

While the video footage does not clearly show Mike knocking down anyone, it depicts the Run The Jewels rapper in a confrontation with several security personnel. In the clip of Mike being led away by the police, a bystander can be heard shouting, “Free Mike.”

Earlier in the evening, Killer Mike achieved a remarkable feat at the Grammys by winning three awards. His song “Scientists & Engineers,” featuring André 3000, Future, and Eryn Allen Kane, secured wins for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. Additionally, he was honored with the award for Best Rap Album for his solo LP Michael, which had also been named the Best Rap Album of 2023 by HipHopDX.

Upon receiving his trophies, Mike acknowledged those who doubted older individuals’ ability to rap, declaring, “This is for all the people who think you’re too old to rap… we keep Hip Hop alive. Never ever stop doing what you do.”

Several figures in the entertainment industry, including Xzibit and Stephen A. Smith, have questioned the circumstances surrounding Killer Mike’s arrest. Xzibit expressed the need for an explanation, while Smith drew comparisons to the Will Smith-Chris Rock incident at the 2022 Oscars, questioning why Mike’s arrest couldn’t have waited until after the Grammy ceremony.
