Lil Nas X Provokes Criticism with Christian-themed Social Media Posts

Despite Lil Nas X’s commitment to his Christian music venture, not all followers of the faith are welcoming him into their realm with open arms.

On Tuesday (January 9), the Georgia native playfully taunted his religious critics through a series of posts on social media. The content included a modified admission letter to an evangelical Christian school and a video clip portraying him dressed as Jesus Christ, taking consecutive shots of wine, and consuming communion crackers.

Professional boxer Ryan Garcia responded to these antics in a pair of since-deleted tweets expressing his dismay. Garcia, a Christian himself, deemed Lil Nas X’s actions as disrespectful and disturbing. He urged Christians to pray for Lil Nas X, emphasizing the need to lift him up in prayer to gain insight into the impact of his actions.

Last month, actor and singer Tyrese also voiced his disapproval of Lil Nas X’s foray into Christian music. He criticized the rapper’s promotion of the genre shift, particularly referencing an unreleased guitar-driven track previewed by Lil Nas X.

Tyrese commented on an Instagram post by The Shade Room, stating, “Y’all gone learn to stop playing with God … God is not to be played with … From shoes with devil signs and devils blood in the [shoe] sole? We can all change I get it, but I feel a way about people making a mockery about Jesus. Do you, live your life .. Do what makes you happy but yall better stop playing with Jesus out here.”

The criticism emerged after Lil Nas X teased an upcoming Christian era with a preview of the unreleased track where he sings about spiritual themes, captioning it, “Y’all mind if I enter my Christian era?”
