Man Sentenced to 52 Years for Ritual Sacrifice of 5-Year-Old Boy, Father Receives 25 Years

In a significant court decision at Iganga’s High Court, Hassan Kafudde received a 52-year prison term for his involvement in the murder of five-year-old Juma Muyita in a ritual sacrifice. Additionally, Issa Muyita, the deceased boy’s father, was sentenced to 25 years for his role in the incident that occurred in 2017, resulting in the death of the young pupil from Mirembe Junior School in Kawempe.

Justice David Batema, in his verdict, underscored the necessity for the severity of the sentences as a warning to potential offenders.

This judgment was lauded by child rights advocates present in the court, acknowledging the court’s decision as a significant step toward justice.

Following the ruling, Jackline Okui, the spokesperson for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), expressed appreciation for the sentence, emphasizing its role in serving justice. She also urged parents to refrain from engaging in the tragic act of sacrificing their children for material gain, highlighting the prevalence of this vice in the Busoga sub-region.
